Back to searchDescription
Summary:
A beautifully preserved historic chapel in the Surrey countryside, featuring original architectural details, atmospheric interiors, and a tranquil rural setting. Ideal for period drama, documentaries, fashion shoots, and music videos.
Description:
Set in the heart of Charlwood, this characterful historic chapel offers an authentic and evocative filming environment. The chapel started life in 1796 as a guardroom with prison cells in Horsham Barracks during the Napoleonic war, this makes it a very rare (if not unique) example of a Napoleonic era timber military building. It was subsequently transported to Charlwood and established as a non-conformist chapel in 1815.
The property retains many original features, including traditional wooden pews, period windows, and a simple yet striking interior layout that lends itself to a wide range of productions.
The chapel’s understated aesthetic allows it to double for multiple eras, from 17th, 18th & 19th-century settings to contemporary scenes requiring a timeless or spiritual backdrop. Natural light filters through the windows, creating soft, cinematic conditions throughout the day.
Externally, the surrounding area provides a peaceful rural backdrop with minimal urban intrusion, offering flexibility for exterior shots and unit setup.
